I am an independent health care writer and editor based in San Francisco. For more than two decades, I have specialized in covering cancer care and treatments. This work has included writing feature articles and news stories on topics ranging from clinical trials and cancer therapies to racial and ethnic disparities in cancer care. I also regularly write profiles of or conduct Q&As with cancer survivors, advocates and medical professionals.
My work has appeared in publications including Cancer Today, SELF, CR, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, The Advocate, and Los Angeles Times. In the capacity of contributing editor, I develop, assign and edit the Forward Look news section of Cancer Today, the consumer magazine published by the American Association for Cancer Research. In short: I know what’s happening in the cancer world. I also provide medical writing services for nonprofit organizations, such as the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, BreastCancerTrials.org and the Cancer Support Community.
I received an Award for Excellence in Health Care Journalism from the Association of Health Care Journalists for my article Reality Check, which was one of the first to explore the actual benefits–and risks–of cancer screening.
I have stories to pitch. I welcome new assignments and the opportunity to work with new editors. Have a story you want me to write? Contact me via email: Sue.L.Rochman@gmail.com. Old-school calling works too: 415-346-0414.
